Saudi Crown Prince’s visit to US, Jamal Khashoggi’s widow demands apology and compensation
After Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s recent visit to Washington, Jamal Khashoggi’s widow, Hanan Al-Ater Khashoggi, has once again demanded an apology and financial compensation for her husband’s murder.
Hanan Al-Ater, the widow of the slain Saudi journalist, has said that it is not enough for the crown prince to call the murder a ‘big mistake’; they should personally apologize together.
Hanan Al-Ater Khashoggi, in a statement shared on social media, said that no explanation can be given for her husband’s murder. Jamal Khashoggi was a brave and outspoken journalist whose thoughts could be disagreed with, but a step like murder cannot be allowed to silence his voice.

She has also called on the US president to help her obtain a financial settlement from the Saudi Crown Prince because Khashoggi’s murder has destroyed her life.
Hanan al-Ater said that Washington should not neglect the principles of human rights and justice while improving relations with Riyadh.
In an interview, the widow of the slain journalist said that it was a painful moment for her to be welcomed by Mohammed bin Salman in Washington as a head of state. If Jamal Khashoggi were alive, she would have met the Crown Prince herself and discussed her ideas and reforms.
Hanan al-Ater said that Jamal Khashoggi wanted to bring new voices and new ideas for the betterment of the country, but his voice was silenced forever.
She added that she is still waiting for ‘real justice’.
Background
It should be noted that after the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, the US intelligence report indicated that the operation to kill the Saudi journalist had been directly approved, which was rejected by the Saudi government.
On the other hand, Jamal Khashoggi’s body has not been found to this day, while several people were sentenced in the trial in Saudi Arabia, some of which were later commuted.
Khashoggi’s widow, Hanan Al-Atar, stressed that confession of the murder is not enough, but forgiveness, a meeting and full compensation should be given so that this tragedy can be truly resolved.
