14-year-old Texas hen named world’s oldest

A Texas woman’s pet hen has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest hen at 14 years and 69 days old.

Little Elm resident Sonya Hill said she hatched the hen, named Pearl, from an egg in her personal incubator on March 13, 2011.

Guinness World Records confirmed Pearl’s age on May 22, making her officially the world’s oldest living hen.

Pearl’s mobility is now limited, so she spends most of her time in the family’s laundry room, she is allowed in the living room because she likes to watch the TV when she hears it on. Pearl also loves the family’s elderly cat and the new kitten.

Hill said she doesn’t seem to have any problems with other animals and the kitten sometimes sits with her.

She said Pearl’s egg-laying has slowed down, but she did lay an egg when the family learned she had become an official Guinness World Record holder.

The previous record for the world’s oldest living hen was held by a pet hen named Paint from Illinois, who died on December 25, 2023, at the age of 21 years and 238 days.
