500 killed, 1,000 injured in earthquake in Afghanistan

A terrible earthquake in Afghanistan killed about 500 people and injured 1,000.

The Afghan Ministry of Information confirmed that 500 people were killed and more than 1,000 were injured in an earthquake in the Afghan province of Kunar.

According to a report by the Afghan news agency Khama Press, the earthquake occurred at 11:47 pm local time.

According to the US Geological Survey, the magnitude of the earthquake that struck Afghanistan last night was recorded as 6, with a depth of 8 km. The epicenter of the earthquake was 27 km east of Jalalabad, Nangarhar province.

According to Afghan media, the most affected districts in Kunar province are Nur Gul, Suki, Watpur, Manogi and Chapa Dara. At least 9 people have been confirmed dead and dozens injured in Nangarhar.

Afghan Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a message on social media that the earthquake that struck tonight caused loss of life and property, and local authorities and residents are engaged in relief activities with the affected people.

He said that relief teams have been dispatched from the center and nearby provinces to participate in rescue and rehabilitation work in the affected areas.
