In view of the ongoing disruptions in flights due to dense fog, Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Tuesday issued a fresh update for passengers, a day after 250 flights were cancelled. In its latest advisory, IGI Airport said that flight operations are gradually returning to normal, but there may still be some delays and disruptions in arrivals and departures. Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for accurate and timely information.
The airport also said that staff are available at all terminals to assist passengers and provide necessary assistance. IGI Airport thanked passengers for their cooperation and understanding during the disruption.
The update comes a day after flight operations were disrupted at Delhi airport on Monday due to dense fog. According to officials, 228 flights were cancelled early this morning due to low visibility, including 131 departures and 97 arrivals. Moreover, five flights were diverted to nearby airports due to unsafe landings. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said its ground teams are working closely with airlines and other stakeholders to assist passengers at all terminals. “Our ground staff are assisting passengers and providing necessary assistance,” it said.
The Civil Aviation Ministry issued the advisory.
Earlier, the civil aviation ministry had urged passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport. In a post on Twitter, the ministry said that air traffic control and ground teams are continuously working to minimise disruptions, stressing that passenger safety is the top priority. Several airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, have issued advisories warning passengers of possible delays due to dense fog in Delhi and other parts of north India. Air India announced the cancellation of around 40 flights, saying that poor visibility has affected operations of all airlines. Other airlines did not share the exact number of flights cancelled or delayed.
