Billionaires poured millions of dollars to prevent Zahran Mamdani from becoming mayor
New York: An American newspaper has revealed that 26 billionaires and their families spent more than $22 million to prevent Muslim candidate Zahran Mamdani from succeeding in the recent New York mayoral election.
According to the report, these billionaires belong to different political and business circles and their aim was to stop Mamdani’s growing popularity. Zahran Mamdani was being described as the strongest candidate in all surveys.
Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg donated $1.5 million to Mamdani’s rival Andrew Cuomo for his election campaign, while other investors also provided significant funds for the same purpose.

After Zahran Mamdani’s victory in the election, several wealthy New York businessmen announced cautious support. The well-known billionaire Bill Ackman, who was considered a strong critic of Mamdani, is now offering to work with him.
Similarly, the well-known Wall Street investor Ralph Schlosstein said that after a tough election campaign, it is time for New York to unite and move forward.
