Democrats win from Virginia to New Jersey, Ghazala Hashmi becomes America’s first Muslim lieutenant governor


The results of state elections in the United States have begun to emerge, in which the Democratic Party has achieved significant success in Virginia and New Jersey.

According to American media, Democrats in Virginia achieved a historic victory and won the title of the first female governor. Abigail Spainberger was elected the first female governor of Virginia, while Ghazala Hashmi succeeded as the deputy governor. Ghazala Hashmi has become the first Indian-origin Muslim woman lieutenant governor of the state.

Ghazala Hashmi has also previously had the honor of becoming Virginia’s first Muslim and South Asian female senator.
On the other hand, Democratic candidate Mickey Sherrill won the governor’s election in New Jersey. He defeated Republican candidate and former assemblyman Jack Chatterley.

Meanwhile, Pakistani-origin candidate Musab Ali is running for mayor in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was born in Lahore and moved to the United States with his parents as a child. Musab’s family faced discrimination and hardship after 9/11, after which he became involved in social service and politics.
In Atlanta, Andre Dickens has been re-elected mayor for a second term.
