‘Fake marriage gang’ busted, 9 accused including 4 brides arrested

Police in the state of Bihar have busted an organised, fake marriage gang and arrested 9 people, including four women.

According to media reports, this gang of fake marriages had been active for a long time and targeted the weak and needy. Under the plan, the women would blend in with the victim’s family after marriage and within a few days would escape with valuables, jewellery and cash.

According to Indian media, acting on a tip-off against the fake marriage gang, the police arrested 4 women and 5 men, including the ringleader of the gang.

According to Bihar police, a vehicle, two motorcycles and 9 mobile phones were also seized during the raid, the records of which will be used to obtain more information.

According to the media, initial investigations revealed that the arrested women were already married but played the role of fake brides for crimes.

Police suspect that the network of this gang is spread to other states outside Bihar. According to the police, all the accused have been sent to judicial custody and investigation is underway.
