Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi sentenced to 17 years in prison in Toshakhana II case

A fine of more than 16.4 million rupees was also imposed on both the culprits, written verdict issued
In the Toshakhana II case, the court sentenced PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison.

Special Judge Central Arjumand Shah pronounced the verdict in the case in the presence of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail. According to the written verdict issued by the court, the prosecution was successful in proving its case and both the accused were found guilty of the crime.

The PTI founder was sentenced to 10 years in prison under Section 409 and 7 years in prison under the Prevention of Corruption Act upon being found guilty. Bushra Bibi will also have to serve 17 years in prison. A fine of Rs 16.425 million has also been imposed on the culprits, failing which they will be sentenced to another 6 months in prison.

According to the written decision, considering the age of the founder and the fact that Bushra Bibi is a woman, both were given the minimum punishment. The period of detention of the culprits has also been included in the sentence.

It should be noted that on July 13, 2024, NAB had arrested Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in Adiala Jail in the Toshakhana II case. Both remained in NAB custody for 37 days. After the investigation was completed, NAB filed a reference in the case in the Accountability Court on August 20.

Statement of FIA Anti-Corruption Circle:

The FIA ​​Anti-Corruption Circle has said in its statement that the Special Court Central-I, Islamabad, while delivering its verdict in the Toshakhana-II case, has sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi and his wife Bushra Imran under various sections.

The court sentenced the accused to 10 years simple imprisonment under Section 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code and 7 years simple imprisonment under Section 5(2) read with Section 47 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, while a fine of Rs. 16,405,000 was also imposed on both the accused. This decision was passed by the court after recording the statements of 21 witnesses and hearing the arguments of the parties.

The background of the case is that the accused did not deposit the Bvlgari jewellery set received during their official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Tosha Khana, although they were legally bound to do so.

During the investigation, it was proved that the accused, in collusion and malice, had priced the said jewellery set at a very low price, resulting in a loss of Rs. 32.851 million to the national exchequer.

This case is the first of its kind in the history of the FIA ​​in which a former prime minister and his wife were convicted purely on the basis of documentary evidence.

After the verdict, both the accused were taken into custody by the FIA ​​Anti-Corruption Circle Islamabad and transferred to Adiala Jail to ensure implementation of the court orders.
