Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took a bullet train ride to Sendai with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba and other officials on the second day of his Japan visit. Sharing pictures of his trip with Prime Minister Modi, the Japanese Prime Minister tweeted, “Going to Sendai with PM Modi. Like last night, I will be in the car with him.”
As India is building a bullet train network between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, PM Modi received detailed information about the Alfa-X train from the Chairman of JR East. “Viewed the new Alfa-X train from the window, with information provided by the President of JR East,” Ishiba said in another post.

After completing Japan visit, PM Modi will travel to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin. He will be in China from August 31 to September 1. PM Modi said he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and several other world leaders in China.
PM meets governors of 16 prefectures in Tokyo
Earlier, PM Modi interacted with members of the National Governors’ Association of Japan.
“This morning in Tokyo, I interacted with the Governors of 16 prefectures of Japan. State-province cooperation is an important pillar of India-Japan friendship. That is why a separate initiative on this was launched during the 15th Annual India-Japan Summit yesterday. There is immense potential for cooperation in areas like trade, innovation, entrepreneurship etc. Future areas like startups, technology and AI can also be beneficial,” he posted on X.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi met the Governors of 16 Japanese prefectures and highlighted the potential for state-province cooperation. He urged them to take steps under the State-Province Partnership Initiative launched during the 15th Annual India-Japan Summit.

The Ministry of External Affairs also shared details of the talks in a post on X, saying, “Further expanding India-Japan relations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets Governors of 16 prefectures in Tokyo.”
The ministry further said that the discussions focused on ways to further deepen the growing partnership between Indian states and Japanese prefectures in the fields of technology, innovation, investment, skills, startups and small and medium enterprises.

According to the statement of the Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Modi emphasized in his address that India-Japan relations, drawing energy from centuries-old civilizational ties, are continuously flourishing.
He said that the time has come to reinvigorate state-state relations, moving beyond the traditional focus on Tokyo and Delhi.
He emphasised that the State-State Partnership Initiative will promote cooperation in trade, technology, tourism, skills, security and cultural exchange.
The Prime Minister urged Japanese Governors and Indian State Governments to forge stronger collaboration in manufacturing, mobility, next-generation infrastructure, innovation, start-ups and small businesses.
Noting that each Japanese prefecture has its own economic and technological strengths and Indian States have their own unique capabilities, the Prime Minister invited Governors to contribute to India’s growth story.
He also called for joint efforts in youth and skills exchange and better integration of Japanese technology with Indian talent, the MEA said.
