More than two years after Bruce Willis was diagnosed with dementia, his wife has revealed that the famous actor is facing serious impairment in speech and cognitive abilities, despite being in “very good” physical health.
According to ISNA, Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming-Willis has described the actor’s early symptoms as “worrisome and frightening” and said that her family has learned to adapt, as his brain is shutting down, although his physical health is very good.
More than two years after Bruce Willis was diagnosed with dementia, his wife has revealed that Bruce’s brain is shutting down and his speech ability is also declining.
“Bruce is still very active. Overall, Bruce’s physical health is great. It’s just that his brain is shutting down. His speech is getting weaker. We’ve learned to adjust to that and we’ve found a different way for him to communicate,” Heming-Willis said in an ABC special.
In 2022, the Willis family announced that the “Die Hard” and “The Sixth Sense” star would retire from acting after being diagnosed with a brain disorder that causes speech and language problems.
A year after the diagnosis, Willis was officially diagnosed with dementia. Willis’ family, which includes his daughters, wife and ex-wife Demi Moore, said in a joint statement, “Although it’s painful, it’s a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.”
Heming-Willis said there are still moments when his wife, 70, shows glimpses of her usual cheerful personality: “We still have those moments.”
