Nicotine pouch use on the rise in ‘Gen Z’
A new study has revealed that the use of nicotine pouches is on the rise among young people.
Scientists at University College London found that one in every 25 people in Gen Z uses nicotine patches.
In 2022, the use of these patches among young people aged 16-24 was 0.7%.
The researchers also found that a total of about half a million people currently use these pouches (which is 10 times more than in 2020).
This patch, placed between the lip and gum, releases addictive nicotine, which is absorbed into the bloodstream through the small blood vessels over a period of 20 to 60 minutes.
Experts (who are now calling for a ban on the sale of these addictive vapes) said that the reason for the popularity of these vapes is that people are addicted to the nicotine they crave, which is considered safer than the harms of cigarettes and tobacco.
